Wipro rolls out platform to migrate company data to Oracle Cloud

Indian software services exporter Wipro Ltd has launched a platform that enables companies to migrate to the cloud of business software maker Oracle Corp.

Irrespective of whether the assets of the company are on premises or on an existing cloud-SaaS environment, the platform called QuMiC (Quick Migration to Cloud) can automate the migration process, Wipro said in a statement.

Wipro said that the platform can save up to 30% in overall cloud implementation costs and result in reduced time for deployment. Moreover, time taken for ERP (enterprise resource planning) designs, setting up configuration, testing and development can be reduced by up to 60%.

Oracle is aiming to stand out in cloud in India.

In January 2019, news agency IANS reported that Oracle will soon launch its first data centre in the country later this year, in view of the demand from the BFSI (banking, financial services and insurance), telecom and manufacturing sectors.

According to the report, the proposed data centre will come up in Mumbai and help the company in lining up services against its rivals such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft's Azure and Google Cloud Platform, popularly known as GCP.

In August 2018, TechCircle had reported that the Indian division of US-headquartered Oracle is pushing its autonomous cloud solutions to customers of its database management system, particularly in the BFSI and telecom sectors.

"We are targeting our current database customers as well as other enterprises who are looking to undergo digital transformation,” Vaibhav Gawde, head of solution consulting at Oracle India, had then said. “Currently, there is a huge market opportunity in India for cloud adoption." 

In August 2018, Oracle said it had picked up 18 firms for its Startup Cloud Accelerator in India offering solutions ranging from conversational chatbots to marketing automation.
