The National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) and the Karnataka government are jointly launching a competition called ‘AI for Good Ideathon’, which will include other state governments, The Economic Times reported.

The report also added that Nasscom is looking for innovative ideas in data science and artificial intelligence that can be implemented in fields like education, agriculture and public services.

According to the report, the last date to submit ideas is 18 January 2019. The ideas are divided into two categories — solutions that have been implemented by participating companies and practical, implementable ideas, the report added.

The first category is expected to bring in ideas from startups in the space, while the second category is open to citizens, institutions and academia, the report said.

"The ideas will be evaluated on five parameters — innovation, practicality, feasibility, scalability and potential to have an impact of a truly Indian challenge," Mohan Krishnan, head of the Centre of Excellence for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at Nasscom, was quoted as telling ET.

The ideas will then be evaluated and only 10 of them will be presented to a jury in February. The awards will be announced in March. The top five ideas will be adopted by the government and will also receive a cash award,  ET said.
