Bengaluru-based software services provider Wipro Ltd has set up a new automotive innovation centre in Detroit, Michigan, to deliver technology solutions to OEMS (original equipment manufacturers), tier-1 suppliers, insurers and technology companies. This is the company’s second development centre in Detroit focused on the automotive sector.

The new centre, Alex Beylin, vice president and global head of automotive business said in a statement, will enable the Detroit automotive community to co-create compelling experiences for customers at optimal costs. “The core product, customer experiences across the product ownership lifecycle and business models in the industry are at the cusp of a transformation. For instance, the goal of wanting to be the best vehicle manufacturer has now given way to companies aiming to build the right community of automotive and technology partners to achieve a compelling value proposition for clients," he said.

The new centre is expected to develop and showcase cutting edge solutions that leverage artificial intelligence, analytics, industrial Internet of Things (IIOT), cloud and crowd sourcing. Further, the hub will promote connected vehicle technologies with In-vehicle Human Machine Interface (HMI). The centre will also look at technology services such as collection and management of on-board sensor data in connected cars, big data insights and end-user mobile apps for delivering personalised driving or mobility experiences.

Incidentally, Wipro already has a connected car platform called AutoInsights that uses telematics to capture vehicle data for a high performance analytics engine. The data insights captured by this engine offer a wide range of capabilities to vehicle owners, telecom companies, insurers and other stakeholders in the automotive ecosystem, it said.

The company launched its first automotive engineering centre in Detroit last year. The centre leverages local talent for the design, development and validation of automotive cockpit electronic products such as navigation systems, connectivity systems, instrument clusters, Head-Up Displays (HUDs), advanced safety systems, vehicle diagnostics and advanced analytics, and end-to-end connected vehicle solutions.

On Tuesday,  the company expanded its presence in the Australia and Asia-Pacific region with the acquisition of strategic design consulting team of Australian design agency Syfte
