Flipkart's chief financial officer Sriram Venkataraman will take on the additional role of chief operating officer at the Walmart-owned e-commerce giant.

Flipkart CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy made the announcement via an internal email sent to employees on Tuesday.

The post of COO has remained vacant since Nitin Seth was dismissed from the company in May 2017 by Krishnamurthy, a decision that was later contested by Seth legally.

Venkataraman will also head the company’s logistics vertical Ekart, business daily Mint, which first reported the development, stated.

The IIT-ISB alumnus joined Flipkart as the CFO of the commerce platform in October 2015 and was elevated as the finance head in March 2017.

Venkataraman’s appointment comes at a time of flux at Flipkart, which has seen major leadership changes after group CEO Binny Bansal resigned on charges of alleged ‘misconduct’ in November.

Walmart formally completed its $16-billion purchase of Flipkart in August this year after anti-trust regulator the Competition Commission of India approved the acquisition.

Multiple media reports has stated that Myntra CEO Ananth Narayanan has also tendered his resignation, though Flipkart has denied the speculation. Amar Nagaram, the firm’s former head of consumer shopping experience, will likely head the fashion arm. Krishnamurthy recently appointed him as the technology and product head at Myntra.
