CII ties up with WhatsApp Business app to train SMEs in customer outreach
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will work with Facebook Inc.'s WhatsApp messenger service to teach small and medium enterprises (SMEs) on how to connect with customers using the WhatsApp Business app, launched in January. Moreover, the business app will introduce new features in the future, said WhatsApp.
WhatsApp and CII will work to boost business communication through CII’s SME Technology Facilitation Centre, the lobby group said in a statement. The centre was set up in November 2016, with the objective of creating awareness among SMEs in India about technological solutions.
There will be on-ground training around the country to explain the features and best practices on the WhatsApp Business app. Business owners in remote areas can attend training webinars.
According to a survey conducted by WhatsApp, 70% of SMEs on the messaging app in India have built their business on the platform.
Neerja Bhatia, executive director, CII, said, “CII SME Technology Facilitation Centre is CII’s initiative to provide the latest technology support to SMEs in India. It’s operating as a one-stop solution centre, summating different upgraded and latest technologies from our multiple large technology partners with an aim to enhance access to technology for Indian SMEs and create technical literacy among them.” The person added: “The centre also provides an opportunity to its technology partners to expand their market and reach out to SMEs spread throughout the country with their product and services.”
Ben Supple, public policy manager, WhatsApp, said, “Whether it’s a tea stand or a saree shop, small businesses are at the heart of vibrant communities and form the engine that makes the Indian economy grow. Small businesses need to meet their customers where they are, and in India, that’s on WhatsApp.”
More than three million people are already using the WhatsApp Business app worldwide, the statement said.
