You can now converse with your Android phone in Hindi after tech giant Google said on Thursday that its voice-based Google Assistant will support the language.

This means that users will now be able to ask questions and receive answers from the machine learning powered-Google Assistant in Hindi.

They will also be able to give Hindi voice commands for tasks such as setting alarms, finding directions, sending text messages and setting reminders, among others.

For now, devices running Android 6.0 Marshmallow or above will be able to access the feature. Google said it will also roll out the feature to Android 5.0 Lollipop, Android Oreo (Go edition) and iOS devices soon.

Users will be able to access the Hindi Google Assistant by holding the Home button or saying “Ok Google” on eligible smartphones and setting their device language to Hindi and updating the Google Search app to the latest version.

Further, Google has built a dedicated site to highlight which Hindi commands can be used in the Google Assistant app.

“In order to make it even more useful to Indians over time, developers and businesses can now build Actions for the Hindi Assistant through the developer platform Actions on Google,” said Purvi Shah, Technical Program Manager, Assistant.

Google had earlier introduced a Hindi-speaking Google Assistant on its messaging app Google Allo, along with debuting a special variant of Google Assistant for JioPhone that supports Hindi and English.

Google had also rolled out limited support for the Hindi language on its Google Assistant app in January this year.
