Intex appoints former Max Life executive as marketing head

Consumer electronics company Intex Technologies has hired Sumit Sehgal as its chief marketing officer, according to a press statement.

Sehgal was previously heading the marketing division at Max Life Insurance.

In his new role at Intex, Sehgal will lead the brand transformation and conceptualise all marketing initiatives in the company.

An MBA from IMT-Ghaziabad, Sehgal had earlier worked with advertising firm J Walter Thompson Worldwide, Bharti Teletech and ITC Ltd.

"In this phase of our expansion, we look forward to his leadership in strengthening brand Intex, both globally and at a national level," said Narendra Bansal, chairman and managing director at Intex Technologies.

Earlier this month, the company appointed former Khaitan Group executive Yashpal Soni as chief information officer (CIO).

Intex was set up by Bansal as a computer peripherals maker in 1996. It diversified into phone manufacturing, consumer durables and IT products in 2007 and entered the wearable technology segment last year.

In June this year, VCCircle had reported that Intex had hired two bankers to manage its initial public offering (IPO) that it plans to launch in four to five months' time.

The company has four manufacturing facilities at Jammu in Jammu and Kashmir, Baddi in Himachal Pradesh, and Noida in Uttar Pradesh. It is setting up a fifth factory in Greater Noida, according to its website. It also exports its products to Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia and Spain.

Intex has benefited from a boom in mobile phone sales in India in the past few years. Its revenue jumped six-fold to Rs 6,213 crore in 2015-16 from Rs 1,033 crore in 2012-13.
