FreeCharge names Govind Rajan CEO, Kunal Shah chairman

Snapdeal-controlled digital payments platform FreeCharge has named Govind Rajan as the company's CEO and Kunal Shah its chairman. Rajan is currently the chief operating officer while Shah is the CEO.

In his previous stints, Rajan was the chief marketing officer (B2C) at Bharti Airtel Ltd and concurrently also served as the CEO of Airtel Money. An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, he spent the first 15 years of his professional life at Hindustan Unilever Ltd, where he served in various marketing and leadership roles. Rajan has total experience of nearly 20 years. He joined FreeCharge in August 2015.

FreeCharge was founded in 2010 by Kunal Shah and Sandeep Tandon. It was acquired by Snapdeal in April 2015. The deal value was not disclosed but media reports estimated it at $300-400 million.

The firm has seen a number of hires in the past few months. In April 2016, FreeCharge hired former Amazon India executive Fareed Jawad as vice president of payments and principal product architect.

In December 2015, the firm appointed former Bharti Airtel executive Anshul Kheterpal as its chief financial officer. In September, it hired Sudeep Tandon as the chief business officer.
