Ecom Express names Girish Lakshman, Rajiv Kapoor as non-executive directors

Delhi-based e-commerce logistics solutions provider, Ecom Express Pvt. Ltd has appointed former Amazon executive Girish Lakshman, and Rajiv Kapoor, chief people officer, Fortis Healthcare, as independent non-executive directors to its board, it said in a statement.

Lakshman has 17 years of experience in the e-commerce logistics space. Between 1999 and 2015, he held a variety of roles at Amazon in the areas of transportation, technology and logistics. Most recently, he served as vice president of Amazon's worldwide transportation strategy, technology and customer returns. He is currently president of the fulfilment division at the US-based Sears Holdings Corporation.

Kapoor has around 30 years of experience in human resources and legal roles and has previously worked with companies such as DCM, Goodyear and JCB.

Ecom Express was established in 2012 by TA Krishnan (CEO), K Satyanarayana, Manju Dhawan and Sanjeev Saxena. It currently reaches 8,000 pin codes in 700 cities through 800 delivery centres. The company has 14,000 employees and claims to deliver anywhere between 1.5 and 2 lakh shipments a day.

In June 2015, the firm had received over Rs 850 crore ($133 million) in investment from private equity (PE) firm Warburg Pincus. This is considered the biggest ever PE funding in rupee terms in the Indian logistics sector and the second-largest in dollar terms.

Peepul Capital had invested more than Rs 100 crore ($16.5 million) in the firm in September 2014.
