Lava launches octa-core smartphone IRIS X8 with 8MP shooter for Rs 8,999 in India

Lava (1)Lava has further expanded it's 'IRIS' range of smartphones in the Indian market with the launch of a new device. Christened IRIS X8, this one sports a 5 inch display and runs on the Android operating system. The device will be available for purchase for Rs 8,999 in the country.

"Over the last one year we have been strengthening our smartphone portfolio under IRIS sub-brand. The IRIS X8 has been designed after understanding requirements of consumers who are looking for a good looking and powerful smartphone that provides them with the ability to multi-task," said Navin Chawla, VP and head- product, Lava International.

The smartphone features a 5 inch HD IPS touchscreen display (720×1280 pixel resolution) and runs on the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system (upgradable to Android Lollipop). It is powered by a 1.4 octa-core ARM Cortex A7 processor and has 2GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 16GB (13.09GB storage available to the user), which can be further expanded up to 32GB with a microSD card.

Lava IRIS X8 has an 8 megapixel autofocus rear camera (with BSI-III Sensor) with dual Flash that can record full HD videos (1080p) at 30 fps, and a 3MP front facing camera for video calling. Additional features of the camera include face detection, High Dynamic Range (HDR), panorama mode, face beauty mode, and live photo mode, among others. On the connectivity front, the device has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 3G, as well as a microUSB port and a microSD card slot.

The company has provided a 2,500 mAh battery in the device that it claims will provide up to 9 hours and 40 minutes of talk time (on 3G) and 291 hours of standby time. The dimensions of the device are 143.38 mm x 70.99 mm x 8.57 mm and its weight is 160 gm. It comes with dual-SIM support, GPS (with A-GPS support), and will be available in black and white colours. Lava is also providing a smart flip cover (out of the box) free of cost with the smartphone.

In terms of competition, in its price range, the smartphone will compete with the likes of Intex Aqua Power (Rs 8,999), XOLO Q1010i (Rs 8,999), Gionee M2 (Rs 9,067), Nokia XL (Rs 9,010), Spice Stellar 526 (Rs 9,069), and Karbonn Titanium S2 (Rs 9,999), among others.

Just last month, Lava had launched IRIS Alfa smartphone in the Indian market. Targeted at the budget segment of the market, it is available for Rs 6,550 in the country. Prior to that, the company had launched the successor to the Fuel 50 smartphone. Called Fuel 60, the device comes with a mammoth 4,000 mAh battery, which the company claims will provide over a day of talk time on 2G. This one is available for Rs 8,888 in India.
