Snapdeal working on membership programme for additional discounts
Snapdeal, which is battling Flipkart and Amazon in the Indian e-com marketplace, is working on a membership programme called Snapdeal Circle. Its membership is in an invite-only mode but from the preliminary information it seems to be an additional discount programme for select customers.
Its website says, "Snapdeal Circle is an invite only program. Continue to shop with us and very soon you will receive an invite to activate your Snapdeal Circle."
Those enrolled into the membership programme will get new promo codes every month for exclusive discounts for shopping on the site.
It is not clear though why the firm is adding a separate layer to the dime a dozen third party coupon sites besides its own mailers to registered users on discounts on its site. An email query to Snapdeal co-founder and CEO, Kunal Bahl, on whether this is a stepping stone for launching a subscription based membership plan like Flipkart First and Amazon Prime, did not immediately elicit a response.
While its homegrown rival Flipkart launched Flipkart First early this year which, in addition to exclusive offers comes bundled with discounted or free express shipping and deliveries, Amazon runs Amazon Prime globally with many more features. Amazon Prime is yet to be launched in India.
Flipkart First also started as a limited period free membership for select customers and is now an annual programme with Rs 500 fee.
