Sony launches Xperia Z2 Tablet for Rs 49,990 in India, takes the fight to Apple & Samsung

Xperia-Z2-TabletAfter unveiling the same at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 earlier this year, Sony has now launched its second generation Xperia tablet in the Indian market. Christened Xperia Z2 Tablet, the device sports a 10.1 inch display and runs on the Android KitKat operating system. It is available for purchase for Rs 49,990 on a number of e-commerce stores in the country.

Apart from the Xperia Z2 Tablet, the company had also unveiled its flagship smartphone Xperia Z2, as well as a mid-priced smartphone called Xperia M2 at the event. Both of them are now available for purchase for Rs 49,990 and Rs 21,990 respectively. In addition, the company had also recently launched its own smartwear device called 'SmartBand' for Rs 5,990. The life-logging wrist band lets you keep track of everything you do – your movements, your communications, as well as your entertainment (read here for more on that).

The tablet sports a 10.1 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display (1920×1200 pixel resolution) and runs on the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. It is powered by a 2.3GHz Qualcomm APQ8074+MSM8974AB quad-core processor and has 3GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 16GB, which can be further expanded an additional 64GB with a microSD card.

It has an 8.1 megapixel rear camera with Exmor RS for mobile sensor that can record full HD (1080p) videos and a 2.2 MP front facing camera for video calling, which can also record full HD videos. Additional features of the camera include burst mode, HDR for both picture and film, 8x digital zoom, and smile detection, among others.

On the connectivity front, the device has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G LTE, as well as a microUSB port and a microSD card slot. It also comes with FM radio with RDS and NFC. The dimensions of the device are 172mm x 266mm x 6.4mm and its weight is 439gm. According to the company, the tablet is both dust resistant and waterproof.

Apart from Apple's 9.7 inch iPad Air offering, which is priced at Rs 42,990 for the 16GB (Wi-Fi + Cellular) version, the tablet will also face off against the recently launched Galaxy Tab S 10.5 inch from Samsung. According to Samsung, it is the thinnest and lightest tablet offered by it till date, and the company has also provided a fingerprint scanner in the device. This one is available for Rs 44,800 in the country.
