Skill assessment startup Mettl appoints Subhash Tantry as president for US operations

Gurgaon-based Mettl Inc, which offers an online skill assessment and testing platform Mettl.com to measure, analyse and improve professional skills, has opened an office in California in the US. The company has also appointed Subhash Tantry as its president for the US operations. In his role, Tantry will be responsible for developing and growing Mettl's business in the market.

Tantry comes with more than 30 years of experience in the software industry. He holds a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a master's in Industrial Engineering and Management Science. He was previously CEO of Fox Technologies. Prior to that, he was CTO of CenterBeam Inc. He had also earlier worked in companies like Consilium and Accenture. In the past, he had co-founded Vigilance Inc, and served as the executive VP and CTO of the firm.

"Within a short span of time, Mettl has become one of the fastest growing names in the online assessments space. I look forward to playing a key role in delivering Mettl's vision and strategy in the US," said Tantry.

Mettl was founded in 2010 by Ketan Kapoor (CEO) and Tonmoy Singhal (COO). While Kapoor is an IIT-Roorkee and IIM-Kolkata alumnus, Shingal is a former student of IIT-Kanpur and IIM-Bangalore. The company's assessment platform is primarily used to screen pre-hires for recruitment (both entry level and experienced profiles). It is also leveraged to gauge existing employees and used for competency tracking/training across aptitude, personality and technical aspects. In addition, job portals, education companies, large publishers, colleges/institutions and training/skill improvement companies are using Mettl to meet their requirements.

In August 2012, Mettl raised $4 million in Series A, led by IndoUS Venture Partners (now Kalaari Capital). Prior to that, it had raised angel rounds from Blume Ventures and other investors like Sasha Mirchandani, Puranjaya Singh, Sunil Sharma and Naveen Tewari.

The firm currently works with over 250-plus clients including Cognizant, Wipro, Capgemini, HCL, Accenture, Ericsson, Sears, Marico, Wiley, Monster, PwC, Makemytrip, Cleartrip and InMobi.
