UK-based online food ordering service JustEat Group acquires rival Meal2Go

Meal2Go-logoUK-based JustEat Group, which provides online food ordering portals in multiple geographies including India, has acquired its rival Meal2Go for an undisclosed amount. According to the company, the deal will enable JustEat to offer a central system for managing orders to more than 36,000 restaurants signed up to its online food ordering service.

London-based Meal2Go.com enables its users to view takeaways, order food online and get it delivered in the UK. The various cuisines offered on the site include Thai, Chinese, Indian as well as Pizzas.

Launched in 2001, JustEat allows users to order food in real-time from local takeaway restaurants via a single online portal. The firm is headquartered in London and is active in 13 countries across the globe. In 2011, JustEat had acquired Indian online food delivery service Hungry Zone and rebranded it as JustEat India. As of now, the Indian counterpart claims to have signed up approximately 2,500 restaurants in cities like Bangalore, Delhi NCR and Mumbai, with thousands of regular consumers.

Meal2Go

The Indian unit also provides users with restaurant listings, reviews, etc. for over 10,000 restaurants spread over 10 cities. Last November, the Indian unit had secured an undisclosed amount in funding from global investment firm Axon Partners Group and private equity firm Forum Synergies India. It is now looking to expand its footprint to other cities including, Bhopal, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Goa, Indore, Hyderabad and Jaipur.
