Nokia launches phablets Lumia 1320 & 1520, also unveils its first tablet Lumia 2520

Finnish-handset manufacturer Nokia has unveiled a slew of products at an event held in Abu Dhabi (UAE) today. Apart from launching two new Lumia phablets (a first for the company), christened Lumia 1320 and Lumia 1520, the company has also made its foray into the tablet market with Lumia 2520. All of them run on the Windows operating system. Last month, Microsoft had acquired Nokia's mobile handset business for $7.2 billion.

In addition, Nokia has also launched three low-priced devices, which include Asha 500, Asha 502 and Asha 503. While the exact pricing of the devices are not available, in order to make them competitive, the company is planning to price them below Rs 7,000 in India. Here is a look at the specifications of the devices:

Lumia 1320Lumia 1320

The first phablet from the company (or the second one depending on which you consider first- 1320 or 1520), Lumia 1320 sports a 6 inch HD LCD IPS touchscreen display (1280×720 pixel resolution) with 245 ppi pixel density. It is powered by a 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 dual core processor, and has 1 GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 8GB that can be further expanded an additional 64GB with a microSD card. In addition, the company is also providing 7GB of SkyDrive cloud storage.

The device has a 5 mega pixel auto-focus rear camera with LED flash that can record full high-definition videos (1080 pixels) at 30 frames per second and a front-facing VGA camera for video calling. On the connectivity front, the device comes with Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G (depending on the region), and it also has a microUSB port. The device measures 164.2 mm x 85.9 mm x 9.8 mm and weighs 220 gm.

It has a 3,400 mAh non-removable battery that the company claims will provide over 21 hours of talk time and 672 hours of stand by time. The device comes with Nokia HERE maps (for navigation), A-GPS and FM radio. It will be available in orange, yellow, black, and white colours.

Lumia 1520Lumia 1520

Big brother of Lumia 1320, this one has a 6 inch full HD LCD IPS touchscreen display (1080×1920 pixel resolution) with 367 ppi pixel density. It is powered by a 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad core processor, and has 2 GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 32GB that can be further expanded an additional 64GB with a microSD card. The company is also providing 7GB of SkyDrive cloud storage.

In terms of camera, this one scores much higher with a 20 MP PureView auto focus rear camera with dual LED flash, that can also record full HD video (1080 pixels) at 30 frames per second. The camera comes with ZEISS optics, optical image stabilisation (OIS), and 2x lossless zoom. It also has a 1.2 MP front-facing camera for video calling, which can also record HD videos (720p) at 30 fps.

On the connectivity front, the device comes with Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G (depending on the region), and it also has a microUSB port. The device measures 162.8 mm x 85.4 mm x 8.7 mm and weighs 209 gm. This basically means that even though it packs a much meaner punch in terms of specifications, it is smaller, thinner, and lighter than its sibling.

It has a 3,400 mAh non-removable battery (with built-in wireless charging) that the company claims will provide over 25 hours of talk time and 768 hours of stand by time. This phablet also comes with Nokia HERE maps (for navigation), A-GPS, FM radio and Near Field Communication (NFC). It will be available in black, white, and yellow colours (no orange).

Pricing

Both the phablets run on the Windows Phone 8 operating system, and many of the new features found in them will be coming to existing Nokia Lumia smartphones running on Windows Phone 8- aligned with the next software update called 'Lumia Black'. The update, including the latest Windows Phone update from Microsoft, is expected to begin rolling out in early 2014.

While Lumia 1320 has been priced at $339 (Rs 20,898), the Lumia 1520 will be available for roughly $749 (Rs 46,174), before local taxes and subsidies.

Lumia 2520Lumia 2520

The first tablet from the house of Nokia, Lumia 2520 sports a 10.1 inch full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display (1920×1080 pixel resolution) with 218 ppi pixel density. It is powered by a 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad core processor, and has 2 GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 32GB that can be further expanded an additional 32GB with a microSD card, and 7GB of SkyDrive cloud storage.

The tablet runs on the Microsoft Windows RT 8.1 operating system, which will offer a complete Microsoft Outlook and Office experience, preinstalled, at no extra cost. Other features include a new version of HERE Maps for offline mapping capability, and Nokia Music for free music streaming and offline mixes.

This one has a 6.7 MP auto focus rear camera that can also record full HD video (1080 pixels) at 30 frames per second. The camera comes with ZEISS optics with f1.9 aperture. It also has a 2 MP wide-angle front facing camera for video calling, which can also record HD videos (720p) at 30 fps.

On the connectivity front, the device comes with Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G (depending on the region), and it also has a USB 3.0 port and a HDMI port. The device measures 267 mm x 168 mm x 8.9 mm and weighs 615 gm. It has a 8,000 mAh non-removable battery that the company claims will provide over 10 hours of talk time and 25 days of stand by time.

The device comes with A-GPS and Near Field Communication (NFC), and will be available in black, white, cyan and red colours. Its US pricing is $499 (Rs 30,762).
