Online education startup WizIQ appoints Rahul Singh as head of engineering
Mohali-based authorGEN Technologies Pvt Ltd, which owns and operates online education platform WizIQ, has roped in Rahul Singh as VP (engineering). It has also appointed Anirudh Moudgal, former chief design officer at Shekhar Kapur Digital Media Pvt Ltd (now Qyuki Digital Media), as head of user interface and design, WizIQ founder and CEO Harman Singh told Techcircle.in.
Rahul Singh, who was working as senior engineering manager at Yahoo, will lead the engineering and IT infrastructure functions for WizIQ, while Moudgal's team will create user-experience flows that will help students and teachers discover each other, teachers deliver their content without getting caught up in complexity and students to be engaged in the learning environment.
Rahul Singh holds a BE degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Bhopal University. He has also completed executive general management program from IIM Bangalore. Singh comes with 14 years of experience in technology. Prior to Yahoo, he was program manager at Honeywell. In the past, he had worked with Aditi Technologies and Zensar Technologies, among others.
An MS in Human Computer Interaction from Georgia Institute of Technology in the US, Anirudh Moudgal has been designing user-experiences since 1997. Prior to joining Qyuki Digital Media he has also worked as VP (design) at Geodesic.
WizIQ was set up by Harman Singh, who has also founded another startup called authorSTREAM, an online PowerPoint-sharing platform. WizIQ connects educators and learners through its virtual classroom technology. The platform offers a course delivery system for teachers, trainers, colleges and universities, high schools and training & tutoring centres around the world.
In January this year, WizIQ raised $4.1 million from education-focused private equity firm Kaizen and German media major Bertelsmann. The company has offices in Hyderabad in India and North Carolina in the US, besides Mohali. In an interview with Techcircle.in recently, Harman Singh said that the company has served more than 3 million students and 250,000 teachers in over 100 countries since starting operations.
"As we are growing fast globally, we are building a senior management team to take on the challenges we expect to face. We need to set up the right engineering processes. Rahul Singh brings with him the expertise of agile development processes and of building scalable cloud based platforms. Further, being in the online education industry, we realised that success is going to depend a lot on the user experience design and that's something Anirudh has the expertise in," according to Harman Singh.
