Excl: After online food ordering, Just Dial to add cab booking, movie ticketing and more
Mumbai-based Just Dial Ltd, which runs an India-specific local business listing site Justdial.com and went public early this year, is working on a slew of new revenue channels with a few are expected to be added to the platform by the end of this financial year, its founder VSS Mani told Techcircle.in.
The firm has had two revenue streams, including ads and paid listings on its platform and recently added an online food ordering feature. Mani said this is among a clutch of new features to be added to the site by the end of 2015. This would broaden its services going beyond search.
"The company has in store more than half-a-dozen new revenue streams, including online cab booking, movie ticket booking and doctor appointment, to begin with. The site will see at least two of them go live by the end of this year," said Mani.
This would expand the bouquet of services capitalising on the brand recall and existing user base and would pitch it against a host of other consumer internet firms, many of which are VC backed.
Although Mani did not share details of the proposed services and whether the firm will partner others to offer such services rather than building them on its own, in cab booking it could be competing with the likes of Olacabs, Meru, Taxiforsure, Easycabs and Savaari. Olacabs is backed by Tiger Global which is also a shareholder in Just Dial. Other shareholders of Just Dial include SAIF Partners, Temasek and Sequoia Capital.
In movie ticketing, it may end up competing with BookMyShow which is the dominant player in the business and in doctor appointment it would compete with a slew of startups such as Practo, HelpingDoc and DocSuggest.
Talking about the recent addition of online food ordering to the site, he said, "We are just enablers. The delivery is being taken care of by the restaurants themselves. And we are not planning to enter logistics services as of now."
The firm recorded 38 per cent rise in operating revenues for the full year ended March 31, 2013 to Rs 362.77 crore with net profit hitting Rs 68.46 crore.
As of March 31, 2013, it was conducting approximately 206,500 campaigns for its paid advertisers. This marks growth of 21 per cent compared with 171,000 campaigns as of March 31, 2012, and growth of 5.8 per cent over 195,100 campaigns at the end of December 31, 2012. This translates into around 2.2 per cent paid listings of the total 9.1 million listings on the site.
