Former HP marketing head Shubhodip Pal joins Micromax as chief marketing officer

Gurgaon-based mobile handset maker Micromax has roped in former Hewlett Packard marketing head Shubhodip Pal to lead its global marketing efforts. Pal is currently the country manager and director of mobile messaging company Blyk.

For around 16 years, Pal has worked with various global brands such as Samsung and ABN AMRO and focused on the consumer space – strategising and implementing new and innovative campaigns.

Commenting on the new hire, Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma said, "Shubhodip has a great track record as a marketer, a tremendous level of energy, experience and enthusiasm that will help the Micromax brand reach newer heights of success."

Pal began his career back in 1997 with Samsung India Electronics and held various positions in the company for over nine years. In 2005, he joined ABN AMRO as AVP and head of communications and sponsorships. Two years later, HP appointed him as head, consumer marketing, to lead communications for both HP and Compaq brands in India.

In August 2010, Pal moved to Blyk India as its business head. He launched the country's first mobile magazine in partnership with mobile service provider Aircel. Today, Blyk on Aircel has more than 3.7 million opted-in users, the company claims.

Micromax claims to be the 12th largest handset manufacturer in the world, with presence in 14 locations including India, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Afghanistan and Brazil, among others. The company offers 60-plus models, ranging from feature-rich, dual-SIM phones to QWERTY, touch-enabled smart feature phones and 3G android smartphones.
