After Android and iOS, BigFlix launches Windows Phone app

Big Flix Pvt Ltd, the digital media arm of Reliance Group, has launched an app for the Windows Phone platform. The company claims that it is the first Indian video-on-demand app available on Windows Phone and with the app, users will be able to view over 1000 movies. The app is available for downloaded free of cost from the Windows Marketplace and once downloaded, users can subscribe to BigFlix to watch the movies. The same logins will also work across PCs and laptops, tablets and other smartphones.

The company already has an Android and an iOS app.

Shreyash Sigtia, business head, BigFlix, said, "Microsoft has set technical specifications for all their devices, which lend themselves well to high-quality content on the smartphones powered by Windows Phone. With the mobile platform becoming popular with high-end smartphones users globally, BigFlix aims to service the need for Indian movies on Windows Phone."

Bigflix.com offers a catalogue of full length movies across major Indian languages that include Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, etc., in DVD like quality. The company also claims to offer a number of latest Indian films- within 15 days of their theatrical release. Some of the available films include Bodyguard, Fashion, Love Sex Aur Dhokha, Wake up Sid, We Are Family, Force, etc.

The company had moved from the DVD rental business last November to online streaming of video on demand. It had also launched BigFlix plus, an online VoD service that allows users to watch movies by paying a monthly subscription fee.

In the following months, it partnered with VAS content and enterprise messaging solutions firm Unisys Infosolutions for online streaming of over 200 full-length feature films and music videos. This was followed by a tie-up with Sony India to offer the BigFlix Plus app preloaded in Sony Bravia Internet TV's and Sony's Tablet offerings S and P.

The company also joined hands with Reliance Communications (RCOM) to offer movies to all Reliance 3G subscribers at a cost of Rs 30 per movie. So irrespective of the fact whether you are a Windows Phone user, if you are a smartphone user and have a Reliance connection, you can still watch movies from BigFlix.

The other players in the same space include Spuul and ErosNow, among others.
