Netherlands-based instant messaging and call mobile application firm Nimbuzz is shifting its headquarters to India. The Indian office, which will be in Gurgaon, will be the core office for its product testing, a senior company executive told Techcircle.in on condition of anonymity.

The source said the decision to relocate the headquarter to India is a board's decision since as much as 24 per cent of its userbase hail from India.

Nimbuzz provides free messaging and call application for mobile phones and is available across all major platforms like Symbian, iOS, Android, BlackBerry, etc.

The decision to move the head office to India could also be linked to recent change at the top management where it has roped in Vikas Saxena (former general manager, 3G and Innovative Services, at Indian telecom firm Aircel) as CEO. Saxena succeeds founder Evert Jaap Lugt who will now be leading the organization in the role of chairman. Saxena was associated with Nimbuzz, before joining Aircel, as country head for India and according to his LinkedIn profile.

Just a few weeks ago, Nimbuzz announced the launch of its messenger API and launched a new initiative called Chat Buddy Developer Program (CBDP). The CBDP allows developers to build chat buddies across various verticals such as cricket, astrology, shopping, games, news, besides utilities such as ticketing, movie reviews, classifieds, etc.

Also, last year it had launched an e-commerce website called NCarry.com for mobile phones. In an interview earlier with Techcircle Keshav  Bajaj, VP, Nimbuzz had mentioned that ecommerce site is positioned as a recommendation engine.
