Flipkart.com Hires Karandeep Singh As CFO

Flipkart.com, India's largest online retailer, has brought on board Karandeep Singh as chief financial officer.

Till recently, he was with Sapient Corporation Pvt. Ltd as vice president (finance) and managing director where he led the India operations and was also part of the company's global leadership team.

Singh's mandate at Flipkart will involve providing, vision and leadership for all aspects of the finance and corporate governance. In addition to this, he will also be a part of the executive team and will contribute to the overall management of the business, concentrating on profitable revenue growth and enhancing the strong lead that Flipkart has in the Indian e-commerce space. Flipkart expects to cross $100 million in revenue this year with tenfold growth from the previous year.

Given that Flipkart has been in the process of a major fundraising exercise (read our stories here and here, he will also be closely involved in such initiatives to raise resources for expansion.

It would help the company strike bigger deals and hire top talent in the future. Till now the company has raised a total of $31 million from Tiger Global Management and Accel Partners, and has struck small inorganic expansion deals such as the catalogue of Chakpak.com, a Bollywood news site that offers updates, news, photos and videos.

Speaking about Singh's appointment, Binny Bansal, chief operating officer and co-founder, Flipkart said, "His track record of leading operational finance teams that are consumer focused aligns well with our business and expansion plans."

Karandeep Singh has a bachelor's degree in Commerce from Delhi University and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). In his career span of two decades, Singh has also held positions at Dell, Moser Baer, Ariba and Yum Brands and overlooked a number of business support functions.
