Samsung To Unveil Windows 8 Tablet

In an attempt to broaden its customer base and diversify its tablet offerings, Samsung will launch a new tablet running on Microsoft's Windows 8 operating system at Microsoft's developers conference in California next week, according to AppleInsider.

This is not the first time the company is opting for an OS other than Android. Earlier, the company had unveiled three new smartphone models that function on its own operating system, in order to increase its market share in the low-end segment and diversify its lineups heavily focused on Google's Android software.

Although the specifications and pricing of the tablet are not available as of now, it should have basic features like a 1GB RAM, internal storage capacity of 32GB and a camera with high definition recording capabilities. The tablet should also include a USB port (which is standard these days) and could also have a HDMI port. The conference will take place from the 13th to the 16th of September, 2011, after which we will get a clear idea about the actual specifications.

These days, almost every company worth its salt is coming out with their own tablets and most of them run on the Android OS, so I guess it is a smart move by Samsung to broaden its offerings and cater to the needs of a larger consumer base. Also, with Windows being the preferred operating system in laptops and desktop PC's, the pairing and integration possibilities for the tablet can be vast.

But whether the Windows 8 OS can take a bite of Apple's and Android's share in the tablet market, is something we will have to wait and see.

Earlier this week, Samsung unveiled its latest smartphone offering during the IFA 2011 event in Berlin, Germany called 'Galaxy Note'.
