Dell Launches One Of The Thinnest 15 Inch Laptops In The World

Dell has launched its latest XPS 15z laptop, also labelled as the "one of the thinnest 15 inch laptop in the world" measuring just 0.97 inches (24.68mm) at its thickest point. The closest competitors in terms of screen size are the Apple Macbook Pro laptops- the 17 inch display laptop is 0.98 inches in depth while the 15 inch display is 0.95 inches.

The laptop is the first in line in a series of new thin and ultra-powerful products from Dell to come this year. It runs on second generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors and is currently available in two processor configurations, Intel Core i5-2410M processor with 2.30 GHz and Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.90 GHz and Intel Core i7-2620M processor with 2.70 GHz and Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.40 GHz. The laptop has Windows 7 Home Premium operating system and a choice of a 6GB or 8GB of RAM.

The base model comes with a 500GB hard disk capacity which can go up to 750GB in the high end model. The consumer also has a choice of opting for a Solid State hard drive with up to 256GB storage capacity. The base model has a 15.6 inch display with a 1366x768 pixel resolution which can be configured to a 1920x1080 pixel resolution making it a full high definition display.

The graphics of the laptops is powered by the NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M graphics card with Optimus and is available in 1GB and 2GB configuration. The laptop also has a 1.3 mega pixel high definition web camera with dual array digital microphones and a HDMI port and a USB 3.0 slot in addition to the USB 2.0 slots.

It has a backlit Chiclet keyboard which is spill-resistant and a multi-touchpad with integrated scrolling and gestures. The dimensions of the laptop are 0.97 inches (24.68mm) x 15.15 inches (384.85mm) x 10.25 inches (260.37mm) and the starting weight is 2.51kg. Dell promises over 7 hours of battery life and the laptop is available in the Elemental silver colour.

The XPS 15z with 2nd-generation Intel Core i5, 4GB DDR3, 500GB 7200RPM HDD and NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M with 1GB graphics memory is priced at Rs.69,900 and the XPS 15z with 2nd-generation Intel Core i7, 8GB DDR3, 750GB 7200RPM HDD and NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M with 2GB graphics memory is priced at  Rs.80,900.
