RedBus, a bus ticketing site company owned by Pilani Soft Labs, has launched its ticketing service on the mobile. With the service, bus travellers can have access to bus schedules, fares, seat layouts and the ability to book tickets on their phone and they can make payments using their debit cards, credit cards, net banking as well as cash on delivery (COD).

The company had launched the beta version of the mobile ticketing service in late 2011. According to the company, thousands of tickets have already been booked and majority of the payments have been through debit/credit cards followed by COD and net banking.

Phanindra Sama, CEO, redBus said, “Mobile shows signs of becoming a dominant channel and we want to enable bus travellers to be able to plan and book their tickets easily on the device. We have created a very easy-to-use and intuitive mobile site with all available payment options.”

Pilani Soft Labs Pvt Ltd owns three brands including BOSS, a SaaS product that is used by bus operators for their inventory management and SeatSeller, which is the company’s bus inventory distribution platform used by travel agents interested in selling bus tickets, besides redBus.

Mayank Bidawatka, head, Internet & Mobile, redBus said, “There are numbers from various sources that suggest a huge population of mobile only internet users too. These customers will derive great value from this product and with the usage of smart phones increasing, we see mobile as a channel having a great future.”

The company recently commenced reservation services for the Delhi Airport buses and plans to add airport bus services of other cities to its offering soon. Earlier, Pilani Soft Labs Pvt Ltd had raised $6.5 million from Helion Venture Partners, Inventus Capital Partners and Seedfund in its series-C funding. This was the third round of funding received by the six-year-old company after raising $1 million in its angel round from Seedfund and an undisclosed sum from Inventus Capital Partners and Seedfund in July, 2009.

In March last year, the company had crossed 3.5 million tickets (and had registered Rs 120 crore in gross bookings) and the latest release points out that the number has since crossed the 7 million mark.
