One97 Incubates Video App Company VideoPind
Mobile Internet services company One97 Communications has incubated a video apps company VideoPind that has just launched its application under its mother brand.
Targeted at consumers looking to access video over the Internet, VideoPind provides filtered and curated content search across various channels like entertainment, education, music, documentary, to mention a few.
The video discovery app has been developed only for iPad, iPhone and Android phones.
“VideoPind is your companion in the maze of massive online videos. With its curating engine and viewing experience, one will love what we have in store,” commented Vijay Shekhar Sharma, managing director of One97 Communications.
This launch is a part of One97 Communication’s strategy of increasing its footprint in the consumer-based industry through Internet linked entertainment products. However, One97 Communications executives refused to comment on the financial details involved in the incubation.
“With an innovative touch gesture, VideoPind gives the users, an unparalleled experience of curated and handpicked high quality videos available across categories,” said Rahul Saini, creator and founder of VideoPind.
Other than curated content availability in channels format, the new app also has the option to enable or disable channels based on ones preference. Consumers can also add channels based on searched keywords and maintain a favorite list for easy viewing.
The video viewing application also allows users to share content via Facebook, twitter, email and mobile SMS.
One97 Communications have been pretty active in incubating and funding technology start-ups. Last month, One 97 Mobility Fund (OMF) invested an undisclosed amount in Dexetra, a mobile product start-up based in Bangalore that has built a mobile application called Iris that uses artificial intelligence for personalised search on mobile.
In July, OMF invested S$1 million in Singapore-based mobile gaming company TheMobileGamer. Earlier this year, One97 had also invested in Ciqual (a Scotland-based mobile broadband customer service solutions firm), along with Google’s executive chairman Eric Schmidt’s Tomorrow Ventures and current Scottish investor Par Equity.
SAIF Partners and Intel Capital-backed One97 had also invested in companies like Oorja (a customer analytics firm) and Paytm (a mobile commerce platform).
