Sridhar Seshadri, former chief of online sales & operations at Google India, has joined baby care e-commerce start-up Hushbabies.com and sister site which provides information on parenthood babybox.in as CEO.

Coimbatore-based two year old start-up hushbabies.com, was co-founded by husband-wife duo Vidyasagar Kris and Praveena Dhinakar. Hushbabies.com is an e-commerce portal catering to babies and mothers. According to its website, the firm has warehouses in Coimbatore, Bangalore and Delhi.

Hushbabies was started as a propreitorship firm in 2010 and in mid 2011 the duo formed a private company Lapis Marketing Pvt Ltd. It began proper operations in August 2011 and few months ago quietly took over babybox.in from Jasper(the company behind Snapdeal.com).

Babybox is an information site targeted at expecting parents and parents of toddlers. It gives health advice from doctors and health professionals as well as parents. There is also cross-selling between the sites with Babybox leading users to Hushbabies for buying products.

Seshadri confirmed to Techcircle.in that Lapis has taken over Babybox from Jasper, but declined to share details of the transaction. He said Lapis is now majority owned by two financial investors without naming them. Kunal Bahl CEO and co-founder of Snapdeal, could not be immediately contacted for more details on the deal.

According to VCCEdge, the financial research platform of VCCircle, Lapis is backed by IndoUs Venture Partners and Nexus Capital. The two venture capital firm are also investors in Jasper.

As per his LinkedIn profile, Sridhar Seshadri joined as CEO of the two portals few weeks ago. Seshadri, a IIM-Lucknow graduate, who started his career with ORG-MARG Research Ltd, moved on to work almost ten years with ICICI Bank before joining Google.

He also serves as an investor-advisor at e-education firm TCY Learning Solutions(Pvt) Ltd and advisor at online microlending platform RangDe.
