South Korean automobile parts maker Hyundai Mobis Co. Ltd has partnered product design firm Tata Elxsi to create virtual worlds for research on autonomous cars.

The simulations will replicate each and every one of the millions of real-world possibilities a self-driving automobile could encounter, Tata Elxsi said in a statement.

The virtual worlds would help accelerate the autonomous-car research Hyundai Mobis is providing to its original equipment makers, Elxsi said.

Elxsi will help create the simulations using artificial intelligence, extended reality, gaming and other emerging technologies.
Another Tata group company is keen on self-driving cars.

In August, Tata Motors tech chief Rajendra Petkar said the firm was working on an autonomous vehicle programme. Petkar had added that the company was also working on connected-car experiences.

"We, at Tata Motors, understand the need for a connected ecosystem that can integrate into the digital lives of customers. With the aim to develop and innovate technologically-leading products that excite customers, we are working with tech partners, to bring the digital lives of our customers into the cars they drive," Petkar had said. He added that the connected-vehicle technology uses artificial intelligence, advanced machine learning, and Internet of Things to boost driving experiences.
