Driving solutions startup The Hi-Tech Robotic Systemz Ltd aims to make Daimler’s cut-price BharatBenz line of Indian trucks safer by imbuing them with artificial-intelligence technology.

The Gurugram-based company said in a statement on Thursday it will deliver its patented assistive driving system called Novus Aware to Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt. Ltd.

Novus Aware uses artificial intelligence and computer vision technologies to monitor eyes, face, head, gaze, and other cues to infer whether a person is driving safely. The company says its patented technology aims to keep the driver alert so that his/her truck doesn’t meet with an accident.

Novus Aware will roll out as standard equipment in heavy-duty tipper trucks and other models under the BharatBenz brand.

Hi-Tech Robotic also produces robots for warehouses and logistics. Besides, it is working on an autonomous driving solution called Novus Drive. The company has tied up with several carmakers to test the technology.

The company was founded in 2004 by Anuj Kapuria, an alumnus of Carnegie Mellon University. It has more than 200 employees, of which 120 work in research and development. The company claims to hold more than 50 patents across the world for emerging technologies.
