Tech giant Oracle is buying Palerra, a US-based cloud security startup co-founded by Oracle's Indian-origin alumni Rohit Gupta and Ganesh Kirti. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Palerra was founded in 2013 and was previously known as Apprity. It had raised $25 million from investors including Norwest Venture Partners and August Capital, according to tech news portal TechCrunch. It focuses on providing security automation for enterprise apps.

The company will continue to serve its existing customers as well as work on more services for the future, Gupta said in a blog post announcing the news. Its customers included VMware, Pitney Bowes and Jefferies. It also has partnered with the likes of Microsoft.

Gupta and Oracle didn't give many details of the new product road map. Gupta said, however, that they will be working on integration with Oracle's platform.

"Together, Oracle and Palerra will help accelerate cloud adoption securely by providing comprehensive identity and security cloud services," he wrote in the blog.

Palerra's Kirti is a computer science graduate from Western Michigan University and has worked with Citigroup and Ericsson. Gupta, who is also a computer science graduate, has worked with Sun Microsystems in the past.

According to TechCrunch, Oracle has made about 100 acquisitions to date, but not many were in the area of security. Others include Oblix in 2005 and device management startup Bitzer Mobile in 2013.
