Kavin Bharti Mittal’s inspiration & philosophy in life

Kavin Bharti Mittal

Kavin Bharti Mittal, Founder, Hike

Kavin Bharti Mittal, one of the twins of Bharti Enterprises chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal, launched instant messaging mobile app Hike in 2012 that has come to command a valuation of $1.4 billion in just four years. Seen as one of the young and successful entrepreneurs of current times, Mittal graduated from Imperial College, London and the University of York before setting out to be an entrepreneur.

Hike, incidentally, was not Mittal junior’s first entrepreneurial venture. He had ventured out on his own when he was only 20 years old and still studying.

Here are few interesting facts about the young scion:

Inspiration: Mittal has said in the past that he was inspired by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs and former Austrian Formula One driver Niki Lauda. Incidentally, he is also a self-confessed Formula One fan.

Philosophy: He follows Zen Buddhist philosophy, which is an amalgamation of Mahayana Buddhism and Taoism. The essence of the philosophy is to understand the meaning of life directly without being misled by logic or language.

Written word: Mittal junior claims that ‘The Hard Thing About Hard Things’ by Ben Horowitz and ‘Zen Mind Beginner’s Mind’ have made a big impact on his life.

Obsession: Hike CEO is obsessed with his new Apple watch and relies on it to track his fitness level.

De-stressing: Mittal meditates for half an hour in the morning and evening. He also follows a fitness regime which includes both cardio and weightlifting.

First entrepreneurial stint: He was only 20 years old and studying at Imperial College in London when Mittal founded an app company AppSpark. Next year, in May 2009, AppSpark launched an iPhone application Movies Now in partnership with movietickets.com, which allowed users to buy movie tickets on the go. The app was chosen by Apple as one of the 10 essential movie goer apps for iPhone users.
