It’s perhaps the best of times and the worst of times for startups in India. In recent years, startup ecosystem in India has attracted plenty of investor attention, but of late, it’s been in news, more so for the not-so-optimistic predictions made for 2016. According to VCCircle PE-VC Outlook Survey 2016, investor interest for ecommerce start-ups will wane, valuations of companies will drop and investments by limited partners will moderate.
That’s quite grim, but these also translate to focus shifting to consolidation and strategic investments, and rethink on the way hyper funding has happened in the ecosystem.
Techcircle Startup Bengaluru 2016 will focus on the positives amid gloomy predictions and also offer insights into how Indian startups and dealmakers are recalibrating their strategies and shifting their focus to survival strategies, profitability, and mergers and acquisitions.
The key attraction of the event will be a fireside chat with Vijay Shekhar Sharma, CEO and founder of Paytm. The chat will be hosted by Raju Narisetti, senior vice president at News Corp. Among other things, the discussion will focus on startups investing in startups, strategies that can help them retain consumers without burning too much cash, and ways in which they can get the most out of their investors, beyond their cheque books.
Sharma has weaved an incredible story of entrepreneurial success and endurance by making Paytm India’s first and only 120-million-user product and the fastest Indian startup to cross billion-dollar valuation. Sharma also plans to launch a new-age Paytm payments bank in days to come.
There are other challenges and opportunities on the agenda, including talent acquisition in a constrained environment; women and startups; future of Bengaluru as a startup hub; and tech startups bringing about social change.
The event, to be held on April 28 at Hotel Park Plaza in Bengaluru, will also see participation from an impressive line-up of speakers, who will talk about keys to success and growth in a highly unpredictable investment scenario. In order to view the list of speakers, click here.
