Bangalore-based Urban Ladder Home Decor Solutions Pvt Ltd, which runs online furniture shop Urban Ladder, has named Sanjay Gupta as chief marketing officer.
Gupta will lead the company’s marketing strategies, including branding as well as digital and product marketing.
He most recently worked as head marketing – wellness and youth at Marico Ltd. Gupta, who previously worked with Accenture and Purple Squirrel Consulting too, brings in 12 years of experience in branding and marketing.
“Sanjay will play a key role in our next phase of growth by integrating our marketing efforts and aligning them with our business strategy,” said Ashish Goel, CEO and co-founder, Urban Ladder.
Gupta is an alumnus of Shri Ram College of Commerce and has a master’s in Business Administration from Management Development Institute, Gurgaon. He also did a course on Strategic Marketing from Harvard University.
Co-founded by Ashish Goel (CEO) and Rajiv Srivatsa (COO) in July 2012, Urban Ladder is an online furniture and home decor company that has over 4,000 products and 35 categories such as wardrobes, sofas, beds, dining tables, storage shelves, etc. It delivers to 17 cities in India, and is expected to expand its base soon.
Last year in April, Urban Ladder raised an undisclosed amount from Silicon Valley-based entrepreneurs Venky Harinarayan and Anand Rajaraman. Earlier that month, it secured $50 million in a Series C round of funding led by Sequoia Capital and TR Capital. Existing investors Steadview Capital, SAIF Partners and Kalaari Capital also participated.
Urban Ladder competes with the likes of Rocket Internet-incubated FabFurnish, Pepperfry.com and MebelKart, besides other horizontal e-commerce players such as Flipkart.com, Snapdeal.com and Amazon.in.
