Trans India Holidays Group, a New Delhi-based offline travel agency, has forayed into the crowded online travel segment with the launch of BigBreaks.com.
BigBreaks.com will allow users to book flight tickets and hotels, and customise their destinations and services, the company said in a statement.
Kapil Goswamy, founder and managing director at the company, said that online travel companies are primarily technology companies selling travel services but Trans India has an advantage over them as it is a travel company with lower costs and wider variety. Being a late entrant in the online segment gives the company the advantage of having a clear picture of what needs improvement in the industry, he said.
Trans India was founded in 1990 by Goswamy. It offers corporate travel services under its Trans World Travels unit, inbound tours under Trans India Holidays and outbound holidays under its Trans World Holidays arm.
India's main online travel agencies are MakeMyTrip.com, Yatra.com, ClearTrip.com and Goibibo.com. Last week, MakeMyTrip Ltd said it had signed an agreement with fellow NASDAQ-listed firm Ctrip.com International Ltd where the Chinese travel services firm would invest $180 million (Rs 1,200 crore) through convertible bonds in India's largest online travel agency.
