Splitkart, a mobile app that allows users to split bills and plan group outings, has secured seed funding from Snapdeal's chief product officer Anand Chandrasekaran.

A person familiar with the development said that Chandrasekaran made the investment in his personal capacity, a few months ago. Sharique Khan, co-founder of Gurgaon-based Splitkart Eservices Pvt Ltd, did not respond to a Techcircle.in query till the time of filing this news report.

The startup allows users to split restaurant bills through a mobile wallet.

It also acts as a platform for discovering deals from nearby restaurants and pubs. The app includes social media sharing options for group planning.

Khan and Manojeet Sinha founded Splitkart in June. Before Splitkart, Khan was one of the 'co-founders' of Rocket Internet-backed CupoNation India. An alumnus of IIM Bangalore, Sinha was earlier CupoNation's country head for India, Australia and Singapore.

(Rocket Internet's core model is to replicate successful global internet businesses in emerging markets outside China with rigorous marketing. It brings in industry executives, gives them stakes in its companies and designates them as co-founder/founder/CEO. Thus, CoupoNation may not have been the brainchild of Khan and other so-called co-founders but they were designated that way.)

Chandrasekaran, who joined Snapdeal in June from Bharti Airtel, is an active angel investor.

He has put money in Los Angeles-based audio accessories company Audeze, hyperlocal medicine and healthcare products delivery startup Pluss, freight platform FreightTiger and HD-live streaming platform Instalively, besides other firms.
