Prior to launching Ibibo, he was with Google’s India operations as country head. Before that, he built a host of features for Indiatimes.com as general manager, e-commerce.
Ibibo began life in 2007 as a home-bred social networking site. It did hold out on its own for a few years as its USP was providing a platform for budding artists and creative talent.
However, the realisation that Indian user needed a sufficiently differentiated platform to shift loyalties away from Facebook encouraged Ibibo to pivot.
The Naspers- owned Ibibo launched online travel agency Goibibo in 2009.
By March 2012, Ibibo had re-positioned itself as a gaming network. The company also launched several of Naspers products in India – including WeChat, UCWeb and forayed in e-commerce via Tradus.
In the last few years, Ibibo has been strengthening its online travel play with acquisitions of YourBus (March 2014) and redBus.in (June 2013).
