Viacom 18 Media Pvt Ltd, which runs a slew of entertainment networks, is starting a new division that aims to serve as a digital media platform which bridges ‘traditional broadcasting and digital innovation.’
Gaurav Gandhi, who is currently group chief operating officer at IndiaCast Media Distribution (a joint venture between TV18 & Viacom18), will be Viacom18 Digital Ventures’ chief operating officer.
A spokesperson for Viacom 18 Media said that more details on the new venture would be announced in due course.
“I am very excited about this opportunity of building out a consumer facing digital business for Viacom 18. With the ever changing media landscape, fast growing high-speed internet access and explosive growth in video consumption across screens, there could not be a better time to move forward in this space. We at Viacom 18 want to be the forefront of this digital convergence with our products & content offerings,” Gandhi said.
Gandhi joined Viacom18 as chief commercial officer and head of international business in March 2010. Previously, he has worked with NDTV Imagine, Star TV, Turner International India and Madison Communications.
Viacom 18 Media is a joint venture operation in India between Viacom Inc and the Network18 Group. Last year, in the biggest ever deal in the Indian media sector, Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries had acquired control in Network 18 Media & Investments, including its subsidiary TV18 Broadcast for Rs 4,000 crore
