The president of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, has died at the age of 55, according to a press release from the company. "Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth," reads the statement. Iwata underwent surgery last year to remove the growth and had resumed his duties after a brief period of recovery. (Business Insider)

Apple, with 20% of sales, takes 92% of smartphone profits: Of the total operating income of the eight largest manufacturers, Apple took 92 per cent last quarter—a remarkable achievement, as the Wall Street Journal notes, given that less than 20 per cent of smartphones sold last quarter were iPhones. That 92 per cent share is down a hair from the 93 per cent Apple grabbed the previous quarter, according to Canaccord Genuity's T. Michael Walkley.
