Gul Panag launches fitness app startup MobieFit, raises seed funding

Actress, activist and fitness advocate Gul Panag is partnering with startup incubator Prototyze to launch a health and fitness centered mobile app startup MobieFit Technologies Pvt Ltd. Panag will act as co-founder and chief fitness officer at MobieFit.

The official website of the startup is scheduled for a launch in five days as shown by the countdown clock on the website.

According to a listing on Angel.co, MobieFit focuses on mobile fitness powered by celebrity trainers. "We have currently developed two engines—a motion-based engine that uses mobile sensors to measure exercises and a distance engine that uses GPS coordinates to track and log distance," it says.

MobieFit has launched its maiden app called FirstRun on Android Play Store. It lists a number of features including walking plus running programme, voice-guided running, GPS integration to track running distance in real time and a personal workout diary with stats and graphs to track the running progress. The app will shortly have long-distance running programmes, options to map runs and an integrated music player.

Founded by Gourav Jaswal, Prototyze is an incubator of mobile internet products across sectors such as financial services, health and fitness and training and earning. MobieFit has been bootstrapped and seed-funded by Prototyze.

Recently, Indian mobile phone manufacture Micromax had invested an undisclosed amount in Caeruz Ventures Pvt Ltd, a Bangalore-based firm behind health and fitness app HealthifyMe. In another development in the similar space, healthcare technology startup Practo had acquired NCR-based FithoWellness, a web and app-based fitness management platform for an undisclosed amount.

Other startups working in the fitness-tracking domain include GetActive, Fitbit Flex and GOQii.
