Micromax launches Bolt A82 & Canvas Pep budget smartphones for Rs 5,499 and Rs 5,999 in India

Home grown handset and tablet manufacturer Micromax has further expanded its Canvas range of smartphones in India with the launch of a new device. Christened Canvas Pep, the device comes with a 4.5 inch display and runs on the Android operating system. Targeted at the budget segment of the market, the smartphone has been priced at Rs 5,999 in India.

In addition, the company has also launched added a new member to its 'Bolt' family of devices. This one sports a slightly larger 5 inch display and also runs on the Android OS. It will be available for purchase for Rs 5,499 in the country. Here is a look at the specifications of the devices.

This one has a 5 inch FWVGA TFT touchscreen display (854×480 pixel resolution) and runs on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS. It is powered by a 1.3 GHz MediaTek MT6572 dual-core processor and has 512GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 4GB (2.26GB for apps and mass storage) that can be further expanded up to 32GB with a microSD card.

Bolt A82 has a 5 megapixel fixed focus rear camera with Flash that can record videos (480p), and a fixed focus front facing VGA camera for video calling. On the connectivity front, the device has Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi, 3G, as well as a microUSB port and a microSD card slot. The company has provided a 1,800 mAh battery with the device, which it claims will provide up to 5 hours of talk time and 200 hours of standby time.

The smartphone has FM Radio, dual-SIM capability, and GPS (with A-GPS support). It is available in black colour. Micromax has also pre-loaded a number of apps in the smartphone that include Clean Master, Mi Games, Mi Live, and Opera Mini, among others.

Canvas PepCanvas Pep for Rs 5,999

The smartphone sports a 4.5 inch FWVGA touchscreen display (854×480 pixel resolution) and runs on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS. It is powered by a 1.3 GHz MediaTek MTK6582M quad-core processor and has 1GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 8GB (5.99GB for apps and mass storage) that can be further expanded up to 32GB with a microSD card.

Canvas Pep has a 5 megapixel autofocus rear camera with Flash that can record HD videos (720p) at 30 frames per second, and a fixed focus front facing VGA camera for video calling. On the connectivity front, the device has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 3G, as well as a microUSB port and a microSD card slot. The company has provided a 1,700 mAh battery with the device, which it claims will provide up to 6 hours of talk time and 210 hours of standby time.

The smartphone has FM Radio, dual-SIM capability, and GPS (with A-GPS support). It is available in white and mystic blue colour. Micromax has also pre-loaded a number of apps in the smartphone that include Hike, M! Live, Opera Mini, MAD, Quikr, Truecaller and Saavn, among others.

Apart from competing with one another, in their price range, both the smartphones will face off against the likes of Lenovo A6000 (Rs 6,999), Motorola Moto E (Rs 5,999), Sony Xperia E1 Dual (Rs 6,477), Karbonn Titanium S10 (Rs 6,290), Microsoft Lumia 435 (Rs 5,821), Samsung Tizen Z1 (Rs 5,900), Huawei Honor Holly (Rs 6,999), ASUS Zenfone C – ZC451CG (Rs 5,999), Xiaomi Redmi 1S (Rs 5,999), and the recently launched Microsoft Lumia 532 (Rs 6,499), among others.
