Microsoft launches budget smartphone Lumia 532 for Rs 6,499 in India; Samsung Galaxy Grand Max available online for Rs 15,990

Within a week of launching the Lumia 435 in the Indian market, Microsoft has added yet another member to its Lumia family of devices. Christened Lumia 532, the smartphone sports a 4 inch display and runs on the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system. Targeted at the budget segment of the market, the smartphone has been priced at Rs 6,499 in the country, and will go on sale later this week.

In comparison, Lumia 435 is available for purchase for as low as Rs 5,999, making it the cheapest Microsoft Windows phone as of now.

In addition, Samsung has also launched another smartphone in the Indian market. Called Galaxy Grand Max, this one sports a bigger 5.25 inch display and runs on the Android operating system. The device has been priced at Rs 15,990 in the country, and will be available for purchase exclusively on Indian e-commerce marketplace Snapdeal.com.

The smartphone sports a 4 inch WVGA LCD touchscreen display (800×480 pixel resolution) with 233 ppi pixel density and runs on the Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Denim operating system. It is powered by a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor and has 1GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 8GB that can be further expanded up to 128GB with a microSD card.

Lumia 532 has a 5 megapixel fixed focus rear camera that can record FWVGA videos (480p) at 30 fps, and a front facing VGA camera for video calling. On the connectivity front, the device has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, and 3G, as well as a microUSB port and a microSD card slot.

The dimensions of the device are 118.9 mm x 65.5 mm x 11.6 mm and its weight is 136 gm. The company has provided a 1,560 mAh battery with the device, which it claims will provide up to 12 hours of talk time, 7.4 hours of video playback, and 528 hours of standby time. The smartphone has FM Radio with RDS and GPS (with A-GPS support). It will be available in orange, black, green, and white colours.

This one sports a 5.25 inch HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display (1280×720 pixels resolution) with 280 ppi pixels per inch and runs on the Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS. It is powered by a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor and has 1.5GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 16GB (approximately 12GB available for the user) that can be further expanded up to 64GB with a microSD card.

Galaxy Grand Max sports a 13 megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED Flash that can also record full HD videos (1080p) at 30 frames per second. The smartphone is optimised for Selfies with a 120° wide-angle 5MP front-facing camera that can also click pictures through voice and gesture recognition. Additional features of the camera include geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, High Dynamic Range (HDR), and panorama, among others.

On the connectivity front, the smartphone has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, and 3G, as well as a microUSB port and a microSD card slot. The dimensions of the device are 146mm x 74.8mm x 7.9mm and its weight is 161gm. Samsung has provided a 2,500 mAh battery in the smartphone, which also comes with GPS (with A-GPS support) and dual-SIM capability. It will be available in white and black colours.
