After unveiling the same earlier this month, Motorola has now launched its flagship smartphone Moto X (2nd Gen) in the Indian market. The device features a bigger display, a curved metal frame, and runs on the latest, unadulterated version of Android.
Similar to the Moto G (2nd Gen), which was launched a couple of weeks back for Rs 12,999, Moto X (2nd Gen) is also available exclusively on Indian e-commerce major Flipkart.com. In India, the smartphone is available for Rs 31,999 for its black colour model. In addition, the company is also offering two other variants including black leather and bamboo white that are priced slightly higher at Rs 33,999.
However, we feel a better pricing for the smartphone would have been closer to that of its predecessor, which was launched for Rs 23,999.
The smartphone sports a 5.2 inch full HD AMOLED touchscreen display (1920×1080 pixels resolution) and runs on the latest Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system (out of the box). It is powered by a 2.5 GHz quad-core MSM8974-AC Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and has 2 GB RAM. Users can choose between 16 and 32GB of non-expandable internal memory, but as of now only the 16GB version is available in the country.
The new Moto X has a 13 mega pixel autofocus rear camera with dual LED rind Flash that supports 4K Ultra HD video recording as well as full high definition video recording (1080p) at 30 frames per second. In addition, it has a 2 MP front-facing camera that can also record full HD videos. On the connectivity front, the device has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G (depending on the region), and a micro USB port.
The smartphone has a 2,300 mAh battery and comes with GPS (with A-GPS support). The dimensions of the device are 140.8mm x 72.4mm x 9.97mm and its weight is 144 gm. A simple wave of your hand silences calls or snoozes alarms, and even when the smartphone is asleep, it displays notifications and updates.
Here is an introductory video of the device.
As usual, Flipkart is offering a number of freebies with the device that include Rs 1,000 off on Motorola deck speaker; interest component refunded as cash back on EMI for six months tenure on HDFC/ICICI credit card; 100 per cent cash back recharge vouchers worth Rs 1,200 from FreeCharge; and free coupons worth Rs 1,500 for purchases on Myntra app.
