Vserv appoints Pranab Punj as its AVP, global marketing

Mumbai-based mobile advertising exchange Vserv.mobi has appointed Pranab Punj as its associate vice president for global marketing. In his new role, Punj will be responsible for driving the company's global marketing endeavours, digital marketing, PR, and brand positioning.

As a part of the senior leadership team, he will also play an important role in devising and implementing Vserv's marketing strategy for a diverse target audience including marketers, telecom operators and publishers.

Speaking on his appointment, Punj said, "Through its marketing efforts, Vserv had provided succinct insights for all stakeholders to unlock the full potential of the mobile medium. In my current capacity, I look forward to augment these efforts further and to newer markets."

Punj has over 13 years of work experience across digital media and entertainment industry, and prior to Vserv, he was the director of digital media at Viacom 18 Media Pvt Ltd. Before that, he was the associate director - interactive media (South Asia) at Turner Broadcasting Systems Asia Pacific, Inc.

He had earlier also worked at companies like Zapak Digital Entertainment Ltd, Level Up Games, IMS Learning Resources, and Tata Retail Enterprises Ltd. He holds a MBA degree in marketing & systems from Symbiosis institute of Management Studies, and a BA degree in psychology & public administration from Himachal Pradesh University.

Founded in January 2010 by Khurana and Ashay Padwal, Vserv claimed that it was receiving 2.4 billion ad requests on a daily basis as of March 31, 2014. In its global territory, India is the biggest market with 27 per cent share, followed by Latin America, the Middle East and Africa. The company has offices in the US, the UK, South Africa, Dubai, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam, besides Mumbai in India.

The company is in advance talks to raise up to $15 million in its Series B funding, and has also appointed Signal Hill as its advisor for the deal. Recently, it had appointed Anurag Patnaik as its senior vice president (VP) for product.

Earlier this year, Vserv launched 'search intent ads' to enable marketers to bag customers via in-ad search, besides a real time bidding platform on its mobile ad exchange. Previously, it also started enabling advertisers to reward consumers with mobile recharges for engaging with brands. Vserv is backed by IDG Ventures and Epiphany Ventures.
