Teamgum enables users to share web content with team mates without leaving the browser

We all read news articles & blogs, watch YouTube videos and access SlideShare on a regular basis. However, we do not share this stuff with our friends or circulate it among our team mates because it requires us to open our e-mail accounts in a separate browser, copy-paste the content, and then send.

A company based out of Mumbai has come up with a platform to ease this pain point. It offers a tool that enables users to share with a click of a button, without having to leave the browser or disturbing the reading experience.

"Teamgum is a browser extension that follows users everywhere on the browser and lets them share stuff with others at the click of a button. The users can also view what everyone in their team is reading live in a pane on the same tab itself," said Jinen Dedhia, co-founder of Deltecs InfoTech Pvt Ltd, the company behind Teamgum.

According to him, Teamgum has a feature for discussions, and it also lets the originator know if the recipient has found the shared content worth reading. It also lets them recommend links to targeted teammates, who would receive notifications on their browser itself.

The startup was founded in 2007 by former Wipro engineers Dedhia and Divyesh Kharade. The company also offers Drona Mobile, an employee engagement tool for which they had raised $500,000 in funding from Kutchi Angel Network in 2011.

How Teamgum works?

Teamgum is essentially a knowledge sharing tool, which can be doubled up as a collaboration tool. Teamgum's USP is its ability to appear on any given tab the user is currently on. It follows the user on the web, and thus there is no need to switch from what the user is working on at that point in time. "As a result, if a link is worth sharing, users' can click on the 'gum' button, share it with their colleagues and continue working on the same tab," explains Dedhia.

Users can also drag and drop pictures and videos from any webpage in real time. Apart from the browser extension, the company also offers apps that are available on iOS, Android and BlackBerry platforms.

"Companies in India are fast adopting enterprise social networking tools. We would like to leverage our current customer base of Drona Mobile, which has been deployed in around 40 large enterprises. A few of them are already trying Teamgum," said Dedhia.

Business model and Traction

A SaaS platform, Teamgum charges a per-user fee from its enterprise clients on a monthly basis. The company claims that Teamgum has been used by more than 300 teams with 1,000 users since its beta launch at the TNW conference this year. The firm counts Spotify, the largest streaming music service in the US, among its key customers. The firm is also looking at global expansion in the coming months.

With 20 people on board, Teamgum is mainly competing with Evernote, Diigo, Yammer and Jive in the global markets. "We are now looking for funding, which will be used for building the team and scaling our operations," Dedhia concluded.
