Paytm, a digital goods and services marketplace from One97 Communications, is all set to launch semi-closed wallet post securing license from RBI. This will enable users to use this wallet across various services on Paytm.
Paytm currently offers closed wallet to users for recharging their prepaid phones and DTH accounts. After the launch of the semi-closed wallet, consumers will also be able to use the new semi closed wallet across several online merchants. All Paytm users will have to sign up afresh for this new semi closed wallet.
Talking to Techcircle.in, a senior marketing professional from the company shared that currently about 14-15 per cent of the user base actively uses the wallet for recharges and they hope that post the launch this number will go up to 40 per cent.
He said that the site crossed 100 million unique visitors in 2013, out of which 5 million active users came through apps. Without giving specific numbers, he also shared that prepaid mobile recharges still account for bulk of the total number of transactions, followed by DTH recharges and post-paid bill payments.
In addition, while the site offers coupons for various e-commerce sites currently, Abbot mentioned that the company will take it to the next level this year. He didn't divulge specific details.
