Online pharmacy network and medicine application HealthKartPlus, owned and operated by Gurgaon-based Aquamarine HealthCare Pvt Ltd, has appointed Gaurav Agarwal, former general manager at Zynga, as CTO. In the new role, he will head HealthKartPlus' products division, with a specific focus on the company's web and mobile initiatives.
An IIT Delhi alumnus, Agarwal has more than 12 years of experience. Prior to joining HealthKartPlus, he led the 'FarmVille' team at Zynga. He joined Zynga in August 2010 and held different roles before being elevated to the post of GM. Previously, he also worked at Network Appliance, Taproot Foundation and Decru Inc.
"This is a very exciting space and I believe a lot of interesting technology work can be done with a platform like HealthKart," said Agarwal.
Founded in March 2011, HealthKartPlus is a generic drug search engine which enables users to find the cheapest medicines. The firm claims that its database has more than one lakh medicines from most brands available in India as well as their cost effective substitutes. A free-to-use platform, it connects local pharmacies directly to consumers and also provides consumers with value-added information about the medicines. It also keeps consumers informed on how their medicine works, explains the side effects, interaction with other drugs and potential contraindications, besides giving information on more economical substitute available for the same.
The firm, which recently expanded its drug delivery services to Bangalore, is now looking to expand to other metro cities in the country.
In June this year, HealthKartPlus raised an undisclosed amount in funding from Intel Capital. The company also offers a free app on Android, iOS and Windows 8 platforms.
