LinkedIn crosses 200M mark, India 2nd largest base with 18M members

World's largest professional networking site LinkedIn has grown even larger! The site has crossed the 200 million members mark and it now has members from over 200 countries and territories.

While the site is available in 19 different languages, the biggest chunk of its members come from the US with 74 million or 37 per cent of the total member count, followed by India with 18 million members. The other countries in the top five include United Kingdom (11 million), Brazil (11 million) and Canada (7 million).

According to the company, the fastest growing countries for the site are Turkey, Colombia and Indonesia, while in terms of mobile growth, China tops the list followed by Brazil, Portugal, India and Italy. As of now, approximately two members are joining the site every second, which adds up to 1,72,800 registrations on a daily basis. Going by this numbers, the site company is likely to have 260 million members before the end of this year.

The largest industries (in terms of the number of members) for the site are information technology and services (4 million), financial services (2.03 million), higher education (1.95 million), computer science (1.65 million) and telecommunications (1.59 million).

As of now, the most followed people on the site are founder and chairman of Virgin Group Richard Branson , US President Barack Obama, Deepak Chopra (an Indian-born American physician), Tony Robbins (American self-help author) and Jeff Weiner (CEO of LinkedIn).

Recently, the company had appointed Nishant K Rao as the new country manager for India, replacing former country manager Hari V Krishnan, who was promoted to the post of managing director for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) and Japan.
