Homegrown mobile handset manufacturer Micromax has further expanded its product offerings by adding LED TVs, home theatre systems, an Android dongle, etc. to the mix. The company has introduced ten new products that include six models of LED TVs, two home theatre systems, a BluRay player and a Smart Stick. Here’s a look at the devices.
The six models range from 23.6 inches (60cms) to 55 inches (139cms) of screen size. The cheapest one is priced below Rs 20,000 while the costliest one is priced in upwards of Rs 1 lakh. The six models include:
LED24K316- Rs 15,990 for 23.6 inches screen size
LEDL31FL24- Rs 16,990 for 23.6 inches screen size
LED32K316- Rs 25,990 for 32 inches screen size
LED42K316- Rs 47,990 for 42 inches screen size
LEDK316K50F- Rs 79,990 for 50 inches screen size
LEDT770K55F- Rs 1,29,990 for 55 inches screen size
While all the models come with HD resolution, four of them (the top three and LED24K316) also offer full HD resolution. Additionally, the 50 and 55 inch models come with 3D capabilities that enable its users to convert 2D signals into 3D. The company is also offering two pairs of 3D glasses bundled with the TV. Finally, the costliest model (LEDT770K55F) also offers Smart TV features, which means users can surf the Internet and download and run apps on this model.
Home theatre systems
The two home theatre systems HT089F1 and HT037F1 are priced at Rs 6,990 and Rs 5,990 respectively. And while both come with 5.1 surround sound, the costlier model also has an in-built digital FM radio. Music can be played on both the home theatre systems via a multi-media card, a USB drive or by simply plugging in the audio source (like an iPod).
Micromax Smart Stick
The company has also launched a dongle running on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system called Micromax Smart Stick. What the dongle does is basically convert a normal TV into a Smart TV by adding the Android experience to it. The device comes with a HDMI and a USB port (so the TV has to support either one for connectivity) and also has Wi-Fi. It can also be connected to a mouse and keyboard (for better navigation and typing while surfing the Web) and comes with 4GB of internal memory (expandable up to 32GB).
Additionally, the company has also launched a BluRay player that supports both 2D and 3D formats, priced at Rs 6,490.
Launched in 2008 in the B2C market, Micromax Informatics Ltd started off as a handset manufacturer. And in just 4 years of operations, the company had already garnered five per cent of the domestic mobile handset market and had staked claim as the third largest handset maker in the country. In an exclusive interview with Techcircle.in, Vikas Jain, co-founder and business director, Micromax had mentioned that the company was shipping a million handsets a month as of July 2012.
The company then made its entry into the already overcrowded Indian tablets market (in April this year) with a low-cost product called Funbook, which was primarily targeted at students. And as of Q2 (quarter ended June 30) of 2012, Micromax was already the market leader in the overall India tablets market with 18.4 per cent share, leaving behind giants like Samsung (with 13.3 per cent) and Apple (with 12.3 per cent), in terms of sales (unit shipments) during the quarter.
Let’s see if the company can recreate its magic in the TV market as well, where it will again face the likes of Samsung, Panasonic and LG, among others.
