Bangalore-based startup incubator Angelprime has appointed Dr Pramod Varma in its technology board to provide technology and architectural leadership for its portfolio companies.

Most recently Dr Varma was the chief architect for the UID project, one of the largest technology deployments of its kind in the world. Prior to this, he was a co-founder of Boston-based Yantra Corporation, a provider of supply chain products, which was later acquired by Sterling Commerce, where he headed technology and research initiatives across all product lines.

Speaking about his own appointment Dr Verma said, "Though we have seen an explosion in startups in the last few years, it is time we unlock the true technology potential that we have here in India and build world-class technology products that would rival anything that is built in Silicon Valley."

Shripati Acharya, managing partner of AngelPrime, said in a statement, "Dr Varma is perfect fit for Angelprime, which specialises in building startups that tackle complex problems, requiring significant technology leverage. He brings extensive knowledge of building large-scale transaction systems and cloud-based solutions, combined with a keen ability to mentor technology teams."

A little over a month ago, Angelprime launched Ezetap, a made-in-India mobile Point-of-Sale solution that allows any merchant or agent to capture credit or debit card payments in the field using their mobile handset or tablet.
