Mumbai and Silicon Valley-based database infrastructure software developer ScaleArc, Inc. has joined the Global Cloud Network (GCN), an alliance of mobile carriers who run their mobile cloud and IaaS (infrastructure as a service) platforms on Joyent's data centre fabric. Joyent, Inc. is a cloud infrastructure company that offers enterprises and developers public, private and hybrid cloud infrastructures.

Set up in 2009 by Varun Singh, former CTO of Web18 Software Services Ltd (the internet and mobile arm of the Network18 group), ScaleArc offers database infrastructure software to e-commerce and SaaS initiatives, enterprises, online gaming/digital media companies and technology service providers.

By joining GCN, the firm will offer its ScaleArc iDB v2.2 software through Joyent's carrier-grade SmartDataCenter cloud infrastructure and customers can immediately start using it for instant horizontal scaling of MySQL database instances, hosted within the Joyent SmartDataCenter, and thus enable SQL-aware load-balancing with higher availability. They can also take advantage of agentless transparent query caching, obtain real-time logging and analytics of all SQL queries and achieve a new level of SQL security.

"Joining GCN allows us to enhance the network's performance and reach a broader market with our new ScaleArc iDB v2.2 and cloud licensing programme offerings," said Singh, founder and CEO of ScaleArc.

"With the addition of ScaleArc, we can ensure our customers are able to realise instant database scalability and higher availability of the mobile applications hosted on Joyent's SmartDataCenter," said James Blom, vice-president (mobile alliances and technology partnerships) at Joyent GCN.

ScaleArc had earlier raised $5.33 million in its second round of institutional funding, led by Trinity Ventures and with full participation of the company's existing investor, Nexus Venture Partners.
