Internet radio network Radiowalla appoints Radio Mirchi exec Rajeev Banerjee as COO

Internet radio service Radiowalla run by Bangalore-based Radiowalla Network Pvt Ltd, has appointed Rajeev Banerjee as its chief operating officer (COO). Prior to this appointment, Banerjee worked as head of sponsorship at Radio Mirchi, a nationwide network of private FM radio stations owned by Entertainment Network India Ltd (ENIL), one of the subsidiaries of The Times Group. Banerjee had spent around 9 years at Radio Mirchi, covering various aspects of the business. Earlier, he had worked with Vodafone and ICICI Prudential Life Insurance.

Commenting on the new hire, Anil Srivatsa, co-founder and CEO of Radiowalla, said, "These are exciting times, especially for internet radio platforms like Radiowalla, and I am confident that Rajeev will be able to take our plans forward."

"I am quite excited to be on board," said Banerjee. "The digital audio industry has immense potential and our product and service offerings in retail audio and direct-to-consumer space are poised for excellent growth. It is a privilege to be working with the team here," he added.

Radiowalla is co-founded by Harvinderjit Bhatia and Srivatsa, who is also the former CEO of Kings XI Punjab (one of the cricket teams of the Indian Premier League) and former COO of Radio Today Broadcasting (Meow 104.8 FM). Earlier this year, the company secured an undisclosed amount in Series A funding from Ojas Ventures Partners. It also runs in-store radio channel under the brand SpotRadio.

Only last month, Radiowalla opened up its services for the public and Srivatsa spoke exclusively to Techcircle.in about its future plans. According to him, Radiowalla would soon come up with Android and iPhone apps, following which the company would bring out Java apps.
